Mentoring and Job Placement
Welcome Service Office in coordination with ProLink, held "Mentoring and Job Placement" seminar on Sept. 17, 2005 at The Canadian Coptic Centre, Trinity Hall 'B'. The seminar was conducted to assist newcomer professionals residing in Peel region to obtain employment in their field of expertise. A large group of newcomer professionals registered and attended the seminar, and a very positive feedback was given to us following completion.
Our guest speaker Wanda from ProLink provided an extremely helpful presentation through which she explained the challenges that newcomer professionals face in finding jobs in their specific fields after landing in their new home Canada.
- Sept. 17, 2005
Wanda described the classification of skills everyone has and how to win in the "job hunting" process. She also introduced the National Occupational Classification (NOC) and gave an overview on how to conduct self assessment, identify areas needing improvement and tailor qualifications to suit employers' needs.
Finally Wanda introduced the program provided by Prolink (Operated By COSTI & CCS) and its role in linking newcomers to mentorship and work placement in Peel.
